My husband and I were married almost 9 1/2 years ago after meeting in college. We were both a little older when we married: in our late 20s. I still had several more years of college left, so there were really no thoughts of children and we got rather used to it just being the two of us. Years went by, college was finished, and a career started in a new state.
Now, I'm not a very decisive person about many things, so I was never certain about wanting to have children. I guess I just didn't know how to relate to children and wasn't sure what I wanted, and was afraid to make that big decision.
Well, we finally did make that decision, although I was still nervous about it all. However, we tried for a while with no luck. I took a new job in another state and so we had to focus on that. Time went on and it seemed like something was missing in our lives; like there was something more I should be doing. At that point, however, we just thought having children just wasn't meant to be for us so we came to terms with it. Of course, that's when things happen, right?
So, five months after we bought our first home I found out I was pregnant. Now that was a speechless moment. I literally didn't know what to say and I'm not sure Art did either.
So, all the home renovations we needed to do on this starter home would mostly have to wait (except for the baby's room) as we came to grips with this new chapter in our lives.
